Beyond the lithium-ion battery - part 1
Lithium ion batteries represent the most effective system for storing energy as they have a high gravimetric and volumetric energy density, excellent cycling and an almost an unitary efficiency. Will it be possible to make even more efficient devices in the near future? This is the topic that will be discussed in this session where methods will be presented to increase the capacity of the electrodes currently used in lithium-ion batteries. We will also present some of the most innovative technologies to go beyond lithium-ion batteries such as lithium metal anodes or sodium ion batteries. In all these applications, nanotechnology can make its contribution to creating increasingly powerful and long-lasting devices.
